1. Only eat when you are hungry. This may sound very simple but try it and you will literally feel the pounds dropping off. Most of us eat when we are bored, so changing your mindset to eating when you are hungry can have a massive impact.
2. Don’t stave yourself. Many people feel that the best way to lose weight is to starve themselves, when all this does is change the body’s metabolism. When you do eat your body will try to retain as much fat as possible because you are starving it.
3. Treat yourself – but not all of the time. By depriving yourself of food and treats which you like you are only storing up problems for the future.
4. Get a dog. Many people are only over weight because of their lack of exercise so why not get yourself a dog to walk? Even a short walk a day will make a difference and it will get you some fresh air.
5. Have a day without the car for local journeys. While many of us travel to work in our car, do you really need to go to the local shops in your car? A day without the car for local journeys will do you the world of good, even if it is just to the local newsagents.
6. Eat regularly. It is vital that you eat your meals at regular times so that your body knows when to expect food and regulate your metabolism. Eating before bedtime is the worst thing you can do as it will lay on your stomach until the morning.
7. Get yourself a Wii! The Wii is the best games console ever as it literally gives you a work out without your knowing it. Whether playing Mario Olympics, Boxing, Bowling or Golf you will be using parts of your body you may never have used for years!
8. Set yourself achievable weight loss goals. The key to weight loss is confidence and the need to set targets which you can achieve. Setting targets you can’t meet will only depress you and make it harder to control your eating habits and weight.
9. Do it with a friend. It is so much easier if you lose weight with a friend as you can both talk to and help each other. You also know that the other person is going through the same ups and downs as you!
10. Do it for you! In order to be successful with a diet you need to do it for yourself, not for your partner, friends or family, you need to be the one who wants to lose weight for you.
